Celebrity Hunt Raises Money for a Cure and Hope for the Future
BYERS, COLO – October 3 and 4, 2008. Hunter’s Dream for a Cure celebrated its seventh annual Celebrity Hunt for a Cure at The Bluffs hunting club.
The hunting tournament, along with live and silent auctions, benefited Hunter’s Dream for a Cure’s mission of raising money for research and development for Sturge-Weber Syndrome and other pediatric neurological disorders, as well as for programs for special needs children across Colorado.
"This years Hunt for a Cure was a testimony of how people's faith and generosity can over come even the toughest of economic times. We were very blessed to hold a tremendous event at The Bluffs this year. I am always amazed by the outpouring support from everyone involved.", said Robb Nelson, Founding Director of Hunter's Dream.
Teams of four hunters were paired with a celebrity for a weekend of skills competitions and pheasant hunting. Celebrities in attendance included former NFL players Scott Adams and Dave Reavis; shooting champions Lance Bade, Richard Aitken and Shari LeGate; artist Ray Kelly; and musicians T.J. Klay and Pete Martinez.
The weekend began with a trap and skeet competition on Friday, followed by dinner and entertainment from country rock musician T.J. Klay, an original member of the band Western Flyer. On Saturday, the teams participated in a morning and afternoon pheasant hunt, followed by dinner and entertainment from Klay and accomplished rodeo and country music artist Pete Martinez.
Saturday night also featured both a live and silent auction. Items in the live auction included hunting trips to South Africa and Argentina, several custom-engraved rifles and shotguns, an autographed Jay Cutler jersey and football, and a weeklong stay at a condo in Aspen. The silent auction contained nearly 120 items, including items donated by National Wild Turkey Federation, the Denver Broncos, Real Tree, Hunter’s Specialties, and several other generous contributors.
Each participant in the hunt received a hunting shirt and hat courtesy of Roper, as well as a swag bag which included items donated from the various sponsors of the event.
Major sponsors of the 2008 Celebrity Hunt for a Cure included Roper, Budweiser, Save-A-Lot Foods, Under Armour, Purina, Quail Run, White Flyer, and Sportsman’s Warehouse. The amazing weekend also would not have been possible without the incredible support from the Bluffs, including owners Dave and Sue MacLennan, their son and manager Russ MacLennan, and the whole MacLennan family and Bluffs staff.
"It was our pleasure to host the hunt for the cure this year at The Bluffs. It was a great event and we look forward to next year. We feel blessed to be part of such a worthy cause", said Russ
